Alter Ego

A visual novel framed as a clicker. Consists of personality tests and multiple-choice questions, the latter of which determine the ending. I discovered this game 3-4 years ago (or more?). With each replay, my results are surprisingly consistent.

The game focuses on philosophical topics (how do we interact with the world? how do we think about the world? how do we want to live our lives? What about rules, or do we give in to impulse? What is a balanced approach towards life?). Es, a character whom the player talks to, is an avid reader. Books are a regular topic of conversation. (The 'clicker' part of the game results in 'reading' books).

Books Mentioned In-Game

Books with a "+" appear in my booklog. The game also offers a series of book recommendations (which only appear in the true ending); these are not included in this list.

My Test Results

Your defense mechanism is... Denial
You're the type to turn away from anything that may breed anxiety or pain. Like a stubborn child, you close your eyes to anything you dislike. Why not try facing your problems every once in a while, instead of shunning them? You also seem to be good at idealizing and idolizing others. Only an idealist like you would be so haunted by presumed betrayal.
Your latent conflict is... Ambiguity Fixation
My, aren't you sensitive to negativity? You must be awfully depressed right now, and feeling quite the victim. Furthermore, you have a real problem with positivity. You're so fixated on your anxieties it's as if you're possessed by them. It seems to me as though you are so caught up in despair that you're twisting the truth of reality... but don't worry. I'll never put you down.
Your hidden motif is... Selfish Autonomy
You take the reins of your own life without searching for impetus in others. By taking an active approach, you open up the path for yourself. The idea of relying on others is nigh on unthinkable for you, as it is your firm discipline to decide things for yourself. I'll bet you're also extremely determined to fulfill all of your goals. However, you should probably try seeking help from others before you get stuck.
Your ego ideal is... Artistic
What you think and feel at any given moment is more important to you than anything else. You may tend to see the person you were just a few moments ago as a complete stranger. If so, that proves just how strong an emphasis you place on the present. However... to anyone else, you're just the same old you. It may seem like a good thing to enjoy constant change, but others might also find you awfully moody.
Your obvious conflict is... Self-Discovery
There is still much that I don't know. Then again, it seems to me that your interests are devoted entirely to your own affairs. That which appears obvious to you, may not seem so obvious to others. As you continue to think on the big issue of who you are, it might be prudent to use others as a measuring stick to help you learn more.
Your hidden contempt is... Pure Rebellion
You have no intention of hiding your rebellious nature regarding that which you were taught. You long to escape your shackles, by any means. You're also very pure and connected to your own inquisitive nature. You've never forgotten what it is to be a child, and you tend to thoroughly investigate whatever catches your fancy. You're like a kid stuck in a rebellious phase. Don't be in a hurry to grow up. I like you this way.

Endings

My instinctual answers result in the ID ending, where Es proclaims she is "the be-all and end-all of this world." She takes on a solipsistic view and gives in to impulse and destruction.
